Ted Kooser

[from Delights and Shadows by Ted Kooser]

The Necktie

His hands fluttered like birds,
each with a fancy silk ribbon
to weave into their nest,
as he stood at the mirror
dressing for work, waving hello
to himself with his hands.

Too coincidental: I just posted a note about Kooser, not as flattering as yours.

    Happy New Year!

  2. I really like the simplicity and accessibility of Kooser's poems. This is one is so visual - I could see those flapping hands. Thanks for sharing it!

  3. Sharon, YES! As my friend Dave says, this poem will come back to him now whenever he ties a tie.
