Drawn To

Inside our lies are memories from past lives. they are experiences of a
hand we feel strongly drawn to today. Many people manifest you, see
without judgment. You may not have even been aware
of who seems oddly familiar.

Violence, death, and trauma: the effects regression allows you to recall
continue to exert an influence over your present reality, physical problems,
or
innate creative abilities.
Where can you record anything? anymore
for a memory from a different lifetime.

Envision your body being filled, operating under a substitute for living in
the present, nothing
you see or hear will harm you. but you
will. you still exist.

Sometimes Anxiety

the social gathered awkward, uncomfortable, chances and alone, the
social gathered enjoyable, especially surrounded people company
sometimes anxiety and self-consciousness sometimes wishing we were
everyone else.

the truth is shy and awkward on occasion. the social gathered focus
intimidating and overwhelming

the social gathered someone who is standing alone. the social gathered
someone who is standing alone. the social gathered someone who is
standing alone. someone who is going up

the social gathered radiate seek protective, everyone felt feeling
remember occasions can feel ready you in your. you have so lovingly and
intentionally

people being everyone people can't help

the social gathered people yourself the social gathered when we where

Carol, I wanted to read more about this book and poet after reading your post. I clicked on "Look Inside" Unspoiled Air at Amazon and instead of getting:
Violence, death, and trauma: the effects regression allows you to
    recall
continue to exert an influence over your present reality...
the book that opened was Execution's Doorstep by Leslie Lytle.
I think it's going to be a weird day!

  2. I like these poems. While working against the rules of syntax, they manage to convey meaning through tone. I've done some experiments to see if syntax alone can convey meaning, and I think it can, but to throw syntax to the wind is even more interesting. If you could record the words as they are produced by a brain working in an anxious or confused state, or trying to work itself out of this state, it might sound like this.

Carol, I love that you do this and it inpires me to do the same. Anyway, I write often about the similar topics, somewhat "confessional" poetry, but I try to use more form and poetic devices in my work. There is a lot of abstract language as opposed to metaphorical language in this work. Some of it reads, to me, like prose with mixed up syntax.

  4. Carol, thanks for posting Kaisa's work! Anyone who wants to find out more can visit Fence Books' website at fenceportal.org... ALSO, we encourage everyone to buy from Small Press Distribution (www.spd.org, and NOT from Amazon, which isn't very fair to bookmakers.

    Thanks again!

  5. These are challenging, and I understand the impetus to play with new ways of making meaning. Pushing envelopes is good for art. But I'd have to read a whole book of these slowly over a few weeks. Language poetry (how I would categorize this book) tends to give me a headache. Not necessarily a bad thing to be shaken out of my complacency.
